Design Journey
I began my professional career back in 2003 while still in college, doing desktop publishing for the NMSU campus paper.
While also in college in 2003, I had my first experience of working remotely for a client, creating custom bicycle jerseys for the annual Solvang Century ride which took place in CA. I remained with this client until 2020, creating custom event jerseys and marketing.
Upon graduating college with a Bachelors of Fine Arts and minor in marketing, I re-located to SLC, UT with efforts of creating balanced work/recreate lifestyle.
I began working for Pearson Publishing’s education branch, doing desktop publishing for ELL workbooks used by over 3 million students in Mexico.
After Pearson, I created an LLC and worked freelance projects such as logos and branding for small start ups. My most notable gig was creating custom bicycle jerseys for a recumbant cycling brand, which involved several custom jerseys per month over the course of 2 years.
In 2010 I accepted a job at E. Excel International. At E. Excel I initially began as a graphic designer, and worked my way up to Senior Graphic Designer, then to Art Director, and eventually Communications Director.
E. Excel was a great place for me to hone my design skills as I worked on a vast variety of different projects, ranging from campaign branding, to desktop published monthly magazines, social media adds, web design, large format stage and event branding, professional event A/V, packaging design and more.
Once in a director role leading the creative marketing team, I began full stack marketing; web development, mobile app development, SEO, analytics, conceptualizing and executing the full branding of every campaign, planning and delivering content for mobile app, paid ads, social media, executive trainings, company wide presentations, automated follow-ups, abandoned cart follow-ups, and all official outgoing company communications. The experience was invaluable as I’ve seen behind the curtain, and I know all of the modern marketing levers to pull to keep a company optimized and humming full speed ahead.
